Overview

Windsor Castle is the oldest and largest inhabited castle in the world. It has been the family home of British kings and queens for almost 1,000 years and is today one of the official residences of His Majesty The King.

Occupying over 10.5 hectares, the Castle offers a varied day out for visitors, including a visit to the magnificent State Apartments and St George's Chapel. The Castle's State Apartments are furnished with some of the finest works from the Royal Collection, reflecting the changing tastes of the Castle's royal occupants, particularly those of Charles II and George IV.

Among the masterpieces on display are paintings by Holbein, Rubens and Van Dyck, Sèvres porcelain and exquisite English and French furniture. Many of the works of art are still in the historic settings for which they were first collected or commissioned by the kings and queens who have lived at Windsor.

Visitors can take a self-guided tour of the Castle with a free multimedia tour. From March to October, visitors can also walk through the sumptuous Semi-State Apartments, which served as the private rooms of George IV in the 19th century. Refreshments can be enjoyed in the Undercroft Café, situated in one of the oldest medieval parts of the Castle.

Located opposite Windsor Castle, enjoy a well-earned relaxing cream tea with a glass of bubbles at Clarence Brasserie. The Clarence brasserie and tearoom is located in the heart of Windsor, just a couple of minutes’ walk along the cobbled Church Street from Windsor Castle.

Serving a traditional cream tea with fluffy scones and dainty sandwiches and a vast selection of teas range from the pink and fruity to the smooth and authentic. It is a quintessential English tearoom, with staff who have the desire to make your experience of this historic and stunning location as delightful as possible.

What did your experience entail?
After the recent coronation of King Charles III, I treated my mother to a quintessentially British experience at Windsor Castle, accompanied by a delightful Sparkling Cream Tea. The vastness of the castle grounds astounded us, providing ample freedom to explore at our leisure. The staff members were remarkably friendly and attentive, and the castle's impressive accessibility, considering its origins in 1070, left us in awe. While on the grounds, we visited King George VI's Memorial Chapel and paid our respects at the final resting place of the late Queen Elizabeth II.
After immersing ourselves in the castle's wonders, including the state rooms and Queen Mary's Dolls' House, we made our way to the brasserie for our cream tea experience. The Clarence Court Brasserie, conveniently located on Church Street just beyond the castle's main gate, welcomed us warmly. A friendly server greeted us, collected our voucher and escorted us to our table. The service proved highly efficient, as within minutes of settling in, we were served with tea and a glass of bubbly. Shortly after we enjoyed the traditional sandwiches, scones, cream, and jam that followed.
What did you enjoy the most?
The best part for us was that we skipped a ginormous queue at Windsor Castle as we had vouchers. We were escorted to a designated “Voucher Holders” entrance and were in the castle much faster than those waiting to buy tickets on the day.

Top Tip

1. There is a lovely café on the castle grounds which offer some delicious cakes, but don’t fill up too much as you have a cream tea to look forward to.
2. Look out for and be respectful of The Foot Guards patrolling Windsor Castle – don’t get in the way!

WHAT A GREAT DAY

Yes I recommend this product.

We were (party of 5 couples) booked in for 12.00 and absolutely loved every minute. Security quite east to negotiate and plenty of staff around the castle to point you in the right direction. The queues weren't too bad longest for the Dolls House. Try and book for a morning slot if you can because when you go through the state rooms you could spend all day in there. We had booked our afternoon tea for 3.15 pm lovely helpful staff and satisfactory tea

Castle was great, cream tea was disappointing

No I do not recommend this product.

Great visit at the castle but then arrived at the Brasserie for the cream tea to find no table reserved and the dietary requirements I had written in the booking had not been accounted for. We were given a table in the crowded space and the afternoon tea itself was average at best. Nice warm scones but sandwiches that I couldn't eat & no efforts at presentation or content of the tea that would justify the price. I was glad it was a gift and we hadn't spent money on this but it was disappointing.

We enjoyed a lovely day out at Windsor Castle, enjoying a look around the Castle and St George’s Chapel where we paid our due respects to the late great Queen Elizabeth II and Prince Phillip where they are interred…I would have liked a bit more time to say a little prayer for her but we were ushered through like sheep unfortunately but that’s ok, there were a lot of people around. The tea room was delightful and delicious and the staff wonderful, really made our day go smoothly (we started with the afternoon tea) …the weather was kind right up until the last 5 minutes where it absolutely poured down! The car park is conveniently very near to the town and the Castle costing £11 for 5 hours or more…we loved the package of the afternoon tea and the Castle; highly recommended!
