What did you get up to?
We arrived at the hotel which is only two miles away from the well-known historical town Woodstock. We enjoyed exploring the local area and there is so much to see and do. There are a few free gates into Blenheim Palace nearby, but please check as they do charge on some days and these gates will not get you access to the buildings themselves, just the grounds. Families with children may like to visit the Cotswolds Wildlife Park, which is only a 30 minutes driving away.
Our room was comfy and had everything we need. We had a delicious afternoon tea included in the experience which we choose to have on arrival.
What did you enjoy the most?
The overall experience is 10 out of 10! The Duke of Marlborough hotel has two buildings – the front building is a pub/restaurant and the back building is the accommodations. Some wooden patio tables & benches are scattered near the pub. The weather was lovely and I enjoyed sunbathing on the benches, drinking cider and reading a book!
The village Wootton is near to the hotel. It would be better to walk to Wootton from the hotel rather than driving because roads and alleys in Wootton are very narrow! It should only take about 15 minutes to walk.

This venue is also a campsite and activity centre. The accommodation was comfortable and the afternoon tea superb. Although out of their normal season, which is summer, the hosts were very friendly and obliging.

The Royal Lodge is a lovely little hotel right by the river and hills surrounding it, lush area, friendly staff and the Afternoon Tea was the best I've ever had! Room was a good size for the price and we had river views, very pleasantly surprised. Only gripe would be the parking cost as it comes at a premium in that area, £7 per day! I would have given 5 stars for everything but Activity Superstore somehow messed up in their communication with the hotel, it was only by chance when I called Royal Lodge they couldn't find my booking in their system, so frantically I had to rejig the dates and it was lucky we could still make it, this is not good considering Activity Superstore confirmed the booking to me...! Other than that I thought it was great value and would definitely do such a voucher stay again!

When I arrived the check in system was down. The afternoon tea was so disappointing, a few finger sandwiches, 2 small pieces of swiss roll, Mr Kipling cake & something else. The scones were very nice. This was nothing like the picture on their website. Dinner was a disaster, had to wait 40 minutes for my starter which was late, my main course was burnt & overcooked, it was only chicken and pesto pasta. The breakfast was unbelievable, buffet in another room and cold. That evening had gone to the pub 5 minutes away for dinner. Breakfast the next day, was a massive improvement, it was hot and cooked when ordered. I got the impression they were very short staffed, never saw the manager. Their was one member of staff that was very helpful and seemed to be doing everything. My room was nice. Wouldn't stay their again.

It was very difficult to get a parking space in the car park although the cost was £15 per night. The shower in the room did not work. The plug for the bath was hanging on. We could not open the window as it was locked and the handle was falling off. Breakfast was satisfactory and staff friendly. We hardly spent any time in the hotel so could not comment on any facilities.

The room we were given was barely big enough for two people, no room for our dog's bed,and we had to paid £20.00 per night for her, she had to sleep on our bed, and eat and drink in the bathroom No drawers, no wardrobe a few hooks on the wall, there was some shelving in the bathroom which was a good size, we honestly felt because this was an "Activity" booking, we were just shoved in this unacceptable room.I wanted to leave just after we booked in, but my husband convinced me to stay. Staff very nice, food Ok
