What did you get up to?
To start the tasting the beer expert gave us a rundown of what we would be doing over the coming few hours, he gave great insight to how beer is made, how beer should be served, and of course how beer should be drank. He was very knowledgeable, answered any questions and made sure everyone was interacting.
For the actual beer tasting we then sampled 8 very different beers, from an India pale ale, through to stout and smoked beer. Each beer was served freshly poured, in the correct glass and a generous 1/3 pint measure. The beer expert would talk through the different hops and barley type in each beer and how this affects the taste/aroma/look of the beer, he would also give a brief insight into where each beer type originated and why. We had a notes sheet as well to write our thoughts on the beers so you could remember which your favourite was. Throughout the beer tasting the bar staff were bringing over nuts and other snacks for everyone to enjoy.
Following the beer tasting we were given a menu to choose our food from, this had 3 different burgers (including vegan), fish and chips and a Buddha Bowl. We could then move to our own table to enjoy the food and sample another beer from their extensive collection (at our own expense).
What did you enjoy the most?
Of course the actual beer tasting was my favourite part! Sampling 8 different beers whilst an expert talks you through each one is my idea of heaven!
